The dandiya dos don''t seem to be stopping in the city. One after the other, all the clubs, the discos, the housing apartments all seem to be having their share of the traditional dancing and more. The latest to pick up this fad and hopefully among the last in this festive season was The Circle club.
Last Sunday evening, post the Diwali hungama of fun, frolic and fire crackers on Friday night, the members got together to have a few more hours of non-stop masti.
The thing about dandiyas nowadays is that not too many people bother to wear the traditional outfit for this Gujarati dance in order to get into the groove.
In fact it''s jeans and kurtis coupled with a dupatta that rules the roost, the only peep into the traditional bit coming with the jhumkas or neck pieces and obviously the dandiya sticks.
"Wearing lehengas is not always possible, it''s easier to be in a pair of jeans instead. After all it''s the dancing that''s important who''s bothered about the clothes," said young Pooja even as she moved to a traditional number with friend Sandhya for company.
In fact, the evening saw a large number of young dancers who made up the bulk of participants on the dance floor. Thus while Jyoti, Radhika, Mista, Khusboo and Priyanka locked sticks all through the evening, Namit and Sudha decided to use both the sticks as well as their hands to remain connected, even as they clapped hard and took fast turns with the music.
Looking rather colourful in red and black printed shirt and leather look black trousers, young Rishit was quite the centre of attention even as he danced with Purva and had a good time.
But even with the youngsters taking the cake, it''s not as if the older of the brigade didn''t try their luck too. Lovely looking couple Niru and Sunil Ganeriwala took to the floor with daughter Rashi and son Subham.
"The club is one place where you can be yourself, and I personally enjoy dancing with my daughter," said a proud Sunil. Even Sharmila and Rakesh had a blast too, as they enjoyed themselves thoroughly all the while.
